Today we’re making myeongnanjeot or spicy cured pollock roe onigiri! Myeongnanjeot is also the same as mentaiko in Japanese.

This fish roe has a deep, rich, umami flavor and while it’s not ‘fishy’ it does have a strong let’s say... seafood essence 😅.

Growing up I would eat this as a side dish with sesame oil and sesame seeds with rice. Definitely a rice killer because it’s so good!!

🍙 For 2 onigiri
*2-3 cups cooked rice
*2 tbsp mentaiko
*2 tsp sesame oil
*1 tsp sesame seeds
*nori sheets

Roasted red pepper shrimp pasta with gochujang 🌶️

I’ve been adding gochujang to most of my pasta sauces lately and it always turns out so 🤌🤌 No butter, cream or cheese is needed for this recipe btw!!

The toasted panko garnish adds a textural element to the pasta which is my favorite part of the dish! If you’re making this recipe, I highly recommend that you don’t skip the panko!

Gyudon aka Japanese style beef rice bowl~

My first time having this was at Yoshinoya in Japan and I remember always ordering the gyudon set which comes with a raw egg yolk. For this recipe, I wanted to recreate the gyudon in the way that I think tastes the best so I hope you enjoy~!

I also used the premium dashi packet from @okume.us in Brooklyn (not sponsored) which cut down the cooking time. Also love that you can make your own furikake with the dashi packet!! Totally recommend checking them out if you’re in the area 🙂

I tried $1 TACOS and $2.50 TACOS in HOUSTON 🌮

The tacos at Tierra Caliente were $2.50 and so good! The pastor taco was a little smoky and the sweetness from the pineapple really made everything come together. The barbacoa was my favorite taco here. So juicy and tender!!

Now onto El Taquito Chay. When my homegirl and I found out they had dollar tacos our fatasses were so excited lmao. The tortilla was a little crispy and they added a nice crunch to every bite. They were smaller but size didn’t matter with these tacos. The fillings were seriously next level - so much flavor and spice! The pastor was definitely my favorite here 🙂

Al pastor tacos are my favorite of all time and both places really delivered. What’s your favorite taco? 😋

This Chinese cantonese style steamed fish only requires 5 ingredients and 15 minutes so this is a recipe for my true lazy potatoes out there *v*

Ingredients
- 1 whole fish (tilapia, flounder, fluke, sea bass), about 1/2 - 2 lbs
- 1/2 inch knob ginger, julienned
- 1 scallion, julienned + white and green separated
- 1 tbsp neutral oil
- 1-2 tbsp seafood soy sauce

1. Top the fish with ginger and white part of scallions.
2. Steam for 7-10 minutes (depending on the size of fish).
3. Garnish with green part of scallions.
4. Pour hot oil over aromatics.
5. Season with seafood soy sauce

Oyakodon or Japanese Chicken & Egg Rice Bowl~

I’m a retired carb hater turned carb QUEEN and I’m happy I can enjoy food again without feeling guilty.

Don’t get me wrong, I lubb these h0e$ lol jk.. but in all seriousness, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with eating a chicken salad with no dressing. However, if that’s the only thing you’re eating to fuel your body all day… everyday, it’ll do more harm than good.

If you’re dealing with something like this, just know that you’re worth more than a number on a scale. So go ahead and eat that rice bowl, that juicy burger, and those crispy fries with a strawberry milkshake on the side. Just remember that balance is key!

Soondubu jjigae is something I crave when I’m hungover, need to purge my fridge, feel like a lazy potato, or all three... at the same time lol. I had some extra mushrooms and shabu beef in the fridge so I put it to good use!

~Ingredients~
2 cups anchovy stock
6 oz thinly sliced beef
1/3 cup onion diced
3 garlic cloves minced
1 scallion white & greens separated
1/3 cup zucchini diced
1/2 cup mushrooms
3 tbsp gochugaru Korean red chili flakes
1 tube extra soft tofu
1 tbsp fish sauce adjust to taste
2 tbsp neutral oil
1 egg

~Anchovy Stock~
8 dried anchovies innards removed
1 (5x5) piece of dried kelp about 10 grams
1/2 cup Korean radish peeled + diced
4 cups water

1. Prepare the anchovy stock by combining dried anchovies, kelp, radish and water in a pot. Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes. Strain then set aside.
2. In a heavy duty pot (like an earthenware pot), heat oil over low heat. Add white part of the scallions and sauté for 2 minutes. Toss in the onions and garlic and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
3. While continuously stirring, add the gochugaru and mix everything together for 2-3 minutes. Gochugaru has the tendency to burn very quickly so make sure the heat is on the lowest setting!
4. Pour in 2 cups of anchovy stock. Once it boils, add zucchini, mushrooms, and fish sauce.
5. After 2-3 minutes, carefully add the extra soft tofu and break it apart with a spoon. Top with thinly sliced beef and egg.
6. Garnish with green part of scallions. Enjoy with a fresh bowl of rice!

This sweet and salty crispy corn is my new favorite movie snack!

They kind of remind me of Frosted Flakes but better. The corn flavor is more pronounced and it’s not as sweet, which I prefer. I like snacking on them as is but they’re also great as toppings for oatmeal, ice cream, yogurt, and more! 🙂

Spicy Gochujang Caramel Sauce~ sweet, salty and super addicting!!

The gochujang adds umami to the caramel sauce and the spiciness subtly kicks in towards the end. You can have this with your favorite desserts like ice cream, snacks like popcorn, and even coffee!

Yields 1 cup
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 oz light corn syrup
* 1 tbsp water
* 2/3 cup heavy cream (room temperature)
* 2 tsp spicy gochujang (adjust for spiciness)
* 1 tbsp butter (room temperature)
* 1/4 tsp salt

1. Combine heavy cream with gochujang and mix well.
2. In a pan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat until the mixture turns dark amber, making sure to constantly stir.
3. Remove off heat. Pour in heavy cream while vigorously stirring.
4. Next, add butter and salt. Mix until salt is completely dissolved.
5. Pour through a chinois or seive.
6. Allow the caramel to cool before storing in the fridge.

Grilled Corn Ice Cream~

The corn trend this year really inspired me to create something unique with corn so I turned it into one of my favorite desserts - ice cream!

I really let my creative juices flow with this one and I’m really happy with the way it turned out! 🙂

You can definitely eat the corn ice cream by itself but I wanted to create a complete dessert with it. So I paired it with gochujang caramel for a hint of spice and sweet + salty crispy corn for some major crunch! When eaten together, it reminds me of Cracker Jack. Does anyone still eat those??

Brussels sprouts is a seriously underrated vegetable and when cooked right, it’s absolutely delicious!

The fried shallots and garlic chips add a nice crunch and the use of leftover infused oil really makes it a flavorful side dish.

The secret to getting a nice char is to pre-heat the sheet tray before placing the Brussels sprouts cut side down! 🙂

Quick and easy Vietnamese-style avocado shake!

This is a super refreshing treat with only 4 ingredients needed 🙂 I like my shakes REALLY thicc but you can thin it out by adding more milik. You can also swap out the condensed milk with another sweetener but it won’t be as creamy!

Chinese style cucumber garlicky salad 🥒 I love quick and easy side dishes like this, especially when I don’t want to cook.

This recipe was inspired by Nan Xiang in Flushing! I swear if cucumber garlic is on the menu, I’m ordering it! Anyone else relate? 😅

* 6 cloves garlic
* 3 tbsp oil
* 5 Persian cucumbers
* 1 tsp salt
* cilantro for garnish

Sauce
* 1 tbsp soy sauce
* 1 tsp sugar
* 1/4 tsp sesame oil
* 1 tbsp black vinegar
* 1/8 tsp msg, optional

1. Cut cucumbers into thirds then into quarters
2. Mix with salt and set aside for 20 min
3. Drain and pat dry
4. Toss cucumbers with sauce ingredients
5. Garnish with cilantro
